Embracing Upskilling in 2024

As we find ourselves midway through 2024, upskilling continues to be a top priority for business leaders and learning and development executives. Keeping up with the ever-changing landscape of technology and skills evolution, upskilling programs offer organizations the chance to remain agile and competitive.

However, the pace of employee growth from upskilling is slow, leading to increased workload stress and even causing some managers to consider quitting. Executives are also concerned about whether training is keeping up with technological advancements like artificial intelligence.

As a leader driving cultural change within your organization, investing in your own personal development can advocate for the importance of upskilling. A strong leader understands the need to continuously refine existing skills and acquire new ones.

Many learning and development leaders also serve as coaches, trainers, or instructors within their organizations. But how many actually participate in their own programs as learners?

Similar to Rihanna using her own Fenty products, L&D leaders engaging with their own programs not only enhance their skills but also gain insight into the learner experience, allowing for necessary improvements.

The genuine curiosity of L&D professionals in continuous learning sets a positive example for their teams. By actively participating in e-learning programs, workshops, training sessions, and certifications, CLOs can inspire a culture of learning within their organizations.

While the skills gap may seem daunting, history shows that adapting to workforce changes is nothing new. As we navigate through the fourth industrial revolution, let’s remember that we have successfully embraced change before.

So, let’s stay focused on upskilling and continuous learning to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the future. We’ve done it before, and we can do it again.
