Boston, MA, May 9, 2025 – Students are set to enhance their college and career readiness through exciting opportunities in Advanced Placement® and career-oriented courses. This upcoming fall semester, VHS Learning Academy, a fully online private high school, offers more than 250 courses designed to equip students with vital college-level study techniques, essential work skills, and the chance to explore various career pathways. The academy is currently accepting applications for the 2025 fall semester.
Previously known as Massachusetts Mayflower Academy, VHS Learning Academy is a fully accredited online high school supported by VHS Learning, a nonprofit organization that has been providing top-notch online courses since 1996. Among the diverse course offerings this fall are AP® African American Studies, Fashion Design, and Hospitality and Tourism: Traveling the Globe.
The AP® African American Studies course delves into the rich social, political, and cultural narratives of Afro-descendant populations throughout the Americas. Spanning over 3000 years, the curriculum includes units on the Origins of the African Diaspora, Freedom, Enslavement and Resistance, The Practice of Freedom, and key Movements and Debates. Students will hone their data analysis skills while engaging with a variety of primary and secondary sources. A summer assignment will prepare participants with foundational concepts before the course begins, alongside an individual project that entails analyzing four sources related to a topic of their choice.
In Fashion Design, learners will discover career and entrepreneurial prospects in the fashion realm, examine sustainable fashion practices, and understand the industry’s inclusivity for individuals with disabilities. Students will acquire technical skills, such as various stitches and the selection of appropriate tools and materials for different projects. They will also enhance their ability to communicate assertively and present their unique talents and interests effectively.
Students enrolled in Hospitality and Tourism: Traveling the Globe will investigate the various sectors within the hospitality and tourism industries, analyzing the effects of tourism at local, national, and global scales. Participants will learn about the operations of tourist destinations, marketing for leisure travel, trend analysis, and event planning.
“Each student at our academy follows a personalized learning path that allows them to explore career interests and engage with courses that truly captivate them,” stated Carol DeFuria, President & CEO of VHS Learning. “We are excited to welcome new students this school year and introduce them to the vast array of stimulating learning experiences we provide.”
