VDI Puts Desktops in the Cloud

Keiser University in Florida made the switch to Azure Virtual Desktop in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the results speak for themselves. With over 1,000 employees initially supported by the cloud desktop solution, the university has since streamlined its operations to around 250 regular users. Not only does VDI support remote work, but it also guarantees business continuity during turbulent times like hurricane season.

Andrew Lee, CIO of Keiser University, emphasizes the flexibility and reduced maintenance burden that comes with a cloud-based IT environment. By hosting the entire infrastructure on Azure, the university has eliminated the need for on-campus data centers, allowing for a more agile and efficient approach to VDI.

VDI Supports Student Choice and Equal Access

Meanwhile, Indiana University is leveraging Citrix virtual desktop technology to provide students with equitable compute resources, regardless of their device preferences. From old laptops to Apple devices that can’t run Windows-only applications, every student has access to the tools they need for a seamless academic experience.

It’s clear that VDI is not just a trend – it’s a game-changer for universities looking to optimize their IT infrastructure and support a diverse range of users. Stay tuned for more insights on how VDI is shaping the future of education!
